Location: Blantyre, Aberdeen and Leicester Bus Depots, UK
Year: 2025

Project Overview
Palmer Energy Technology’s Scope
Solution Delivered
Palmer Energy Technology partnered with First Bus to deliver behind-the-meter commercial and industrial (C&I) Battery Energy Storage Systems across three UK bus depots. The project was designed to reduce on-site energy costs, maximise the value of existing solar generation, and unlock new revenue opportunities through intelligent battery optimisation.
Palmer Energy Technology acted as turnkey delivery partner, with full responsibility for:
Acting as Principal Designer and Principal Contractor
Site assessment and technical feasibility studies
System design and technology selection
Supply of Palmer Mega BESS equipment
Installation, commissioning, and handover
Ongoing operation and maintenance
Following detailed assessment of each depot’s load profile, solar generation, and operational requirements, Palmer Energy Technology designed and delivered a tailored BESS solution for each site.
Each depot was equipped with:
2 × Palmer Mega 261 BESS units
Total capacity per site: 522 kWh / 250 kW
The systems were configured to:
Capture and store excess on-site solar generation
Enable energy arbitrage by charging during low-cost periods and discharging during peak tariff windows
Support BESS optimisation strategies to create additional revenue opportunities
As a behind-the-meter solution, the BESS directly supports depot demand, improving energy efficiency and reducing reliance on imported grid electricity.
Rapid Delivery
From project kick off through to on-site commissioning, Palmer Energy Technology delivered the full multi-site project in just three months, demonstrating the company’s ability to deploy scalable energy storage solutions at speed without compromising on quality or safety.
